Man behind King code departs from Brait

Replaced by former deputy finance minister.

Mervyn King, who developed SA's King code on corporate governance, will retire as a director and non-executive chairman of Brait with immediate effect. He will be replaced by another well known name in SA - Jabu Moleketi.

Moleketi was deputy finance minister from April 29 2004 to September 23 2008.

King has been chairman of Brait since 1998 and was a former judge of the High Court, he is also chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance and a member of the Securities Regulation Panel.

Everyone is on about crime. Many criminals start stealing out of desperation for food etc. Surely we should have some sypathy for that kind of crook. But a guy who steals money from the workers a modern day reverse Robin Hood. How can society laud . .more

Was the embarrassment finally too much ?
Was always amazed by the fact the author of the King Code was ignoring his own code with the situation at Brait... What a joke..!

Sat at the table next to him
at Wombles restuarant in Parktown North couple of years ago. About 90 minutes' worth of Merve loudly telling stories that all showed just how #@^(&^.i.n.g fantastic a human being he is. Talked about all the judges by their first name, for example. . .more
