Alec Hogg

Alec Hogg founded Moneyweb in April 1997. Apart from a two and a half year stint as a group general manager at Absa Bank, he has spent his career in financial journalism as a writer, editor, broadcaster, columnist and publisher. During this time he held senior positions in the print media, served as the Head of News Input at SABC TV News and ran his own publishing business. Recipient of many awards, he is the youngest ever winner of the country's Financial Reporter of the Year Award, aged 22 in 1983. Founded and published the country's first weekly horseracing magazine, Racing Digest, which was eventually absorbed into the Caxton publishing group. Alec is editor-in-chief of Moneyweb and hosts the SAfm Market Update with Moneyweb radio programme broadcast throughout South Africa on SAfm (104 - 107fm) week-nights from 6pm to 6:30pm; and rebroadcast from 7pm to 8pm on Radio Today 1485am and Audio Channel 70 on DSTV.         

Andrew Smith

Andrew has held various senior leadership positions in a variety of web, professional services and technology firms in South Africa and abroad for over 15 years, and was appointed as Moneyweb's executive chairman on May 25 2010. He was previously managing partner at Andersen's South African Business Consulting practice and was also a member of Andersen's EMEIA Advanced Technology leadership team. Andrew has also been a partner at KPMG Consulting and Unisys Limited, as well as a group executive and director at Datatec Limited, the JSE and AIM listed networking and technologies group. Andrew was a non-executive director at Moneyweb between 1998-2000 and 2003-2010.

Andries van Zyl

Andries is the main presenter and researcher on Moneyweb's Geldsake met Moneyweb on RSG. A broadcaster at heart, Andries has a passion for both radio and television. Andries is an all-rounder, who's interested in a wide range of local an international issues, including politics, sports, economics and agriculture. His day-to-day motto is to share quality and reliable information in a user-friendly way with radio listeners.

Barbara Mazaris

Barbara worked with Alec Hogg at Radio 702, and joined Moneyweb on a full time basis when the Moneyweb radio programme moved from Radio 702 in June 2000. She has worked in various capacities, including producing the morning radio show on 1485AM, as Moneyweb's brand manager and producing for Alec. Currently, Barbara is Moneyweb's community and events manager.

Calvin Ntombela

Calvin is a sports mad web developer who graduated at CTI (Computer Training Institute) as a Web Development Specialist in 2003. After spending five years in the industry as a web/java developer, Calvin joined Moneyweb as its web developer. He has been instrumental in developing new functionality on all our platforms, and behind the development of Racingweb. 

David Carte

David is editor-at-large at Moneyweb, in which capacity he covers virtually any aspect of business. He has been a financial journalist all his working life, apart from the 15 years he spent as director of a PR company. In some 25 years of journalism Carte has worked for most of SA's major business media, including te Rand Daily Mail, the Financial Mail, and Finance Week. He was editor of the Sunday Times Business Times for eight years until 1991. In 1986 he won the Rosholt Fellowship, which took him on a senior management development course at Templeton College, Oxford. He had earlier majored in English and Economics at Wits. As a director of Sussens Mann, which later changed its name to Meropa, he consulted on financial PR and investor relations to a number of SA's largest corporates. In 2006 Carte decided to return to journalism and joined his former colleague, Moneyweb CEO Alec Hogg, with whom he previously worked on the RDM, Finance Week and Business Times.

Felicity Duncan

Felicity writes broadly about the economy, and writes on the US. She has a Master's degree in journalism and media studies, which she earned as a Fulbright scholar. Felicity won the best newcomer award in the 2005 Sanlam Financial Journalism Awards.

Hilton Tarrant

Hilton Tarrant is production editor at Moneyweb. He also project manages new website launches for the company and covers ICT issues, chiefly through his weekly column, Broadband. Hilton was awarded the 2006 Telkom ICT Journalist of the Year award for the on line category.

Jackie Cameron

Jackie Cameron is our Asian correspondent. Jackie was a founding assistant editor of Personal Finance magazine before joining Moneyweb in 2000. She has published two books - "Banking" and "Property" (Pearson Education SA)- and received a journalism award in 2003 for her in-depth reportage. A Rhodes University journalism graduate, Jackie has worked in a variety of areas during her career, including crime reporting and consumer writing, before moving into financial journalism. She has a business management diploma and has contributed to many of South Africa's top business and consumer publications. Jackie founded and edited Moneyweb's specialist property site, www.realestateweb.co.za

Janine Bester

Janine joined Moneyweb in March 2005 as a Sales Executive. After a year, she showed a very keen interest in broadcasting, especially in Moneyweb's Afrikaans business show RSG se Geldsake met Moneyweb. She has been the executive producer for RSG se Geldsake met Moneyweb since then and is extremely passionate about Afrikaans language broadcasting, and working for Moneyweb. RSG se Geldsake met Moneyweb, broadcast between 100 -104FM from 5 - 6pm each week night, is currently the country's only Afrikaans business show and the biggest of its kind. She is also the executive producer of the SAfm Market Update. 

Julius Cobbett

Julius Cobbett focuses on investigations and fund management. He has a special interest in investment scams. Julius joined Moneyweb's internship programme in 2004, after completing a BCom degree at the University of South Africa. Julius won the award for reporting on hedge funds in the 2006 Citadel Words on Money journalism competition.

Malcolm Rees

Malcolm has recently finished an honours degree in journalism at Wits, he also has a postgraduate diploma in management from the Wits Business School. He is primarily interested in the macro-economic mechanisms affecting sub-Saharan Africa and in global economics. He currently writes for the business section of the Citizen which is produced by Moneyweb.

Micel Schnehage

Micel Schnehage joined Moneyweb as a freelancer in August 2010 focusing on investigative stories. Prior to that she was a senior journalist with Primedia's Eyewitness News team, covering general news. Before joining Primedia she was the editor of the SABC's News Research department and was also the bulletin editor of the corporation's Channel Africa radio station. Before joining the SABC, Micel spent seven years with the South African Press Association, SAPA. She spent five of those years as SAPA's representatve in KwaZulu-Natal during the turbulent nineties. In 1999 she co-authored a book on political violence in the province with former policeman, Bushie Engelbrecht who was sent there to investigate high profile murders and massacres related to the conflict between the African National Congress and the Inkatha Freedom Party. She cut her writing teeth on the violence in East Rand townships in the early nineties while working for SAPA. She graduated in BA Communications IV from the North West university in Potchefstroom in 1985.


Monique Vanek

Monique is joint editor and co-founder of www.moneywebtax.co.za and editor of Moneyweb. She was previously the executive producer for Geldsake met Moneyweb, co-producer for Moneyweb's morning show on 1485AM and did research for CNBC Power Lunch with Moneyweb. Monique joined Moneyweb's internship programme in 2003, after completing a diploma in management at WBS. Monique also has a Masters degree in Development Studies from Wits University and earned an honours degree with distinction in Political Studies. She was selected to present part of her honours dissertation at a Codesria conference in 2003, which was later published.

Nic Wilson

Nic Wilson is a project manager at Moneyweb, dealing mainly with looklocal and The Citizen’s website. Before switching to web, Nic spent 20 years working on both community and daily newspapers, as a journalist, production and technical specialist and in management.
 

Ntombifuthi Zwane

Ntombi joined Moneyweb in May 2001 to work as a tea & cleaning lady. Later, Moneyweb decided to promote her to a reception position. In 2005, she went to the Nafcoc JCCI Chamber of commerce to develop front line and telephone skills. She received her certificate with flying colours, and started as a professional receptionist on July 2005.

Sunshine Motlhabane

Sunshine Motlhabane is a sound engineer for Moneyweb Power Hour. He also assists with the production of RSG Geldsake. Sunshine joined Moneyweb in 2002.

Tracy Wade

Tracy Wade has a BSc degree in Biochemistry and worked at the University of Coventry and Coventry Hospital in the UK as a laboratory technician. In 2001 Tracy changed careers and joined Discovery channel in London as a web developer. After five years of working overseas Tracy returned to SA and joined Moneyweb in 2003 as Moneyweb's web developer. Tracy now lives in Australia, but acts as webmaster of several Moneyweb sites.
