Make-a-Million competition update and BlackBerry winner: John Vorster – PSG Online |
HILTON TARRANT: John Vorster is with PSG Online. John, our Make-a-Million competition is well under way. We are in the home straight, a couple of weeks to go. How's the leaderboard looking?
JOHAN VORSTER: Hilton, it's looking good. I can, however, say that the guys at the front are still well clear of of last year's winning total, and definitely nowhere near the runaways that we saw last year when guys were reaching R190 000, R200 000 at this stage of the competition. So the leaders are sitting - I've just confirmed it now on the Internet where it's live - they are sitting at about R35 000. Then there's a bit of a gap to the second place. But still all to play for in the last three weeks.
HILTON TARRANT: Who's our weekly winner this week, the person managing to grow their portfolio by 60%?
JOHAN VORSTER: Yes, absolutely, 61.3%, you are correct. That's Dave1, David Robert Smith from Durbanville there in the Cape. He wins our weekly prize, which is the BlackBerry Curve given away by Vodacom Business and BlackBerry. And that's a cause for anyone, doesn't matter what your portfolio is, you don't need to be in the top 10 or on the leaderboard at all - you just need to grow your portfolio by the highest percentage in a week, and that's what this prize is for.
HILTON TARRANT: John, a couple of days left to enter?
JOHAN VORSTER: Absolutely. You can enter by Friday. You have to enter by Friday, then we close off all entries and we also black out the leaderboard for the last two weeks. So then it is really all to play for. Now you can still see where the guys are that you are chasing, even though you can't see what they've got in their portfolios. But from Friday it'll be uncertain where the guys at the top are.

Worse than expected US employment data released on Friday initially forced global markets down, but markets rebounded after discounting that interest rate will be kept lower for longer. The gold price has reached another high, while the rand is weaker, making gold shares good long-position bets for the week.
Remember, the front-runners in the Make-a-Million competition are still well short of last year's winning position, but hurry to catch them as the leaderboard closes down for the last two weeks this Friday.
