Bridget Oppenheimer, the widow of mining magnate Harry Oppenheimer reportedly passed away on Wednesday.
Bridget Oppenheimer is widely quoted as the ‘queen mother’ of horse racing and owned six Durban July winners.
Sapa quotes film producer Anant Singh and his wife and Vanashree as saying that her death is a loss to the racing industry and to the country as a whole. Sapa quotes Anant Singh: “Vanashree and I are deeply saddened by [her] passing. We were fortunate to have her as a friend and to have shared many memorable occasions with her.”
“Our heartfelt condolences go to Nicky, Mary and the Oppenheimer family.” He described Bridget Oppenheimer as a remarkable woman who was very proud of the time she had served on Robben Island as a nurse during World War Two.
