HTC recently launched its new flagship Android smartphone, the HTC One M8, into the South African market.
It will be competing against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Sony Xperia Z2, and the LG G3 when the latter is launched in South Africa.
LG will be hosting a local launch event for the LG G3 next week (July 17 2014).
In lieu of contract prices for the LG G3, we compare the S5, Z2, and One M8 to the LG G Flex instead.
The table below shows how the prices on 24-month contracts from the various operators compare for the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z2, and LG G Flex.
Where an operator has all the devices on a particular deal, the row is highlighted.

As one might expect, when you consider the low cash price of the LG G Flex relative to the other three devices, the contract price of the G Flex is consistently lower than other devices.
However, it isn’t that much cheaper on contract given that it costs around R2 000 less than the Sony Xperia Z2 and HTC One M8 from the Orange online shop.
Another interesting trend revealed by the table is that the HTC One M8 contracts from Vodacom and MTN are the most expensive of the high-end devices compared.
This is despite the fact that the HTC One M8 goes for less than the Sony Xperia Z2 at Orange.
