Gradidge holds a BCom from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), a BCom Honours from Unisa, a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State (UFS) and a MBA from the University of Cape Town (UCT). He is a Certified Financial Planner®, a member of the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) and vice chair of the FPI’s Investment Competency Committee. Gradidge serves as an independent expert on the Investment Sub Committee of Medshield. He has been in the industry since 1996 and has gained experience at an operational, management and executive level in a number of large financial services companies.

Carla de Waal, Multi Management and Manager Selection head at FNB Wealth and Investments.

De Waal is the Multi Management and Manager Selection head at FNB Wealth and Investments. She is also a portfolio manager of the multi managed solutions, where she is extensively involved in the selection and blending of multiple different building blocks in constructing client-centric portfolios. De Waal joined FNB Wealth and Investments in October 2014 after managing funds of hedge funds for over a decade in her previous roles outside the bank. She has 20 years’ experience in the investment industry and is a CFA charter holder.

Rish Tandapany

Chief Operating Officer for EasyEquities

Rish Tandapany is a strategic leader with extensive experience leading and developing organisations and functions to maximise their potential. He has more than 16 years’ experience in investment banking, brokerage, data, foreign exchange, commodities and securities trading.

Tandapany is former global chief operations/financial officer of broker and investment management firm ADSS, and previously held senior positions at Standard Chartered and Deutsche Bank, as well as board and advisory positions in several Hong Kong and Singapore financial services firms.

He has an MBA, and is a CFA and NLP master practitioner. His key professional interests are organisational psychology, business transformation, financial inclusion and data analytics.

Originally from London, he has spent the last 12 years in Asia and the Middle East.

Brett Hope Robertson

Head of investments at Revix

Hope Robertson hails from the financial services sector, where he was an institutional multi-asset derivatives analyst and dealer. He maintained a desk that executed multi-billion-rand orders and won the JSE Spire Award for listed interest-rate derivatives. During his time as a derivatives analyst, he also helped build out a derivatives hedge fund strategy, but found his mind wandering to the world of cryptocurrencies.

Hope Robertson later enrolled in a course from Harvard Extension School (US), which taught Bitcoin and blockchain technology coding. He graduated from UCT with a Masters in Investment Management and has completed Level 2 of the CFA Programme. In his spare time, Hope Robertson can be found on the golf course where he hits bombs and misses greens.

Steven Boykey Sidley

Director at Bridge Capital Future Advisory

Steven Boykey Sidley is an award-winning and multi-shortlisted author of five novels and one non-fiction book (‘Beyond Bitcoin: Decentralised finance and the end of banks’), co-written with Simon Dingle. He is also a playwright and a regular contributing columnist to outlets such as Daily Maverick and Business Day. Sidley has a MSc in Computer Science from University of California, Los Angeles and has spent decades working as group chief technology officer for multiple global listed companies including Anglo American plc, as well as starting, building, and selling numerous technology companies. He is currently partner at Bridge Capital, a corporate advisory.

Puseletso Mbele

Head of investment consulting at Novare Holdings

Mbele has a BCom in Risk Management. Her career began in 2005 as a foreign exchange consultant at First National Bank. She gained valuable experience at Noah Financial Innovation where she was employed from August 2007 as research sales assistant responsible for data research. In 2010 she joined Investec Asset Management as a direct desk investment consultant. Later that year she was promoted to client services consultant. Mbele was appointed as portfolio manager assistant at Sasfin Securities in 2014. She joined Riscura in November 2014 as client services manager. Her responsibilities included investment manager research and reporting on client performance. Mbele joined Novare in October 2015 as a fund manager and in January 2020 was appointed as the head of investment consulting and is responsible for overall client fund management and relations. She is based in Johannesburg, with 17 years’ experience in the industry.

Langa Madonko

Co-founder of Summit Africa

Madonko is responsible for investor relations, capital raising and training at niche alternative investment manager Summit Africa and has over 14 years of experience in financial services and management consulting. Madonko is a deputy president of the Association of Black Security and Investment Professionals and represents the organisation on the Council of the Financial Sector Transformation Council.

He is also a board member of the Southern Africa Venture Capital and Private Equity Association and the co-chair of the Transformation and Regulatory Sub Committees. He is deputy chair of The Finance Portfolio Committee of the Black Business Council (BBC) and has been seconded to Nedlac on behalf of the BBC. He is also the president of the Summit Africa Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Summit Africa.

Lucretia Chopera

Senior investment associate at Knife Capital and Africa venture capital enthusiast

Chopera is a CFA Level II Candidate, with a BSc Honours in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe, and a MBA from Wits Business School. Highlights from her career thus far include collaborating with over 60 venture capital, early-stage businesses in the SADC Region; originating 14 private equity deals (totalling over $80m); successfully leading nine exits ($150m in value) and facilitating the creation of more than 550 jobs.

Prior to joining Knife Capital, she managed investments for an Allan Gray fund and a USAID $100m fund, both impact funds focused on SME investments in SADC, for 15 years. In her various roles, she developed in-depth knowledge and a good understanding of cultural and political dynamics in seven Southern African countries that make investing in Africa unique. She aims to be an eternal student, ever learning through collaborating with fellow industry experts and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds.

Anthea Gardner

Founder and managing partner of Cartesian Capital

Gardner has a MBA from Wits Business School and has worked at various international investment banks, including HSBC (Johannesburg), Morgan Stanley (London) and the African Development Bank (Tunis). Gardner lists her time in Tunisia during the Arab Spring as one of her more interesting dinner party stories. As a keen sportswoman, she has also completed several Ironman triathlons.

Jeanette Marais

CEO of Momentum Investments

Marais joined Momentum Metropolitan in 2018 as deputy CEO. Having a strong track record of building profitable businesses at various financial institutions, she is also CEO of Momentum Investments. She started her career at Momentum in 1990, filling various roles in actuarial product development, marketing and as part of the team that launched Momentum Administration Services, pioneering investment platforms in South Africa. She filled executive level positions at PSG, Stanlib and Old Mutual before joining Allan Gray in 2009 as co-head of the retail business where she became executive director. She is passionate about the upliftment of women and making financial services accessible to all South Africans.

Valdene Reddy

Director of capital markets at JSE

For the past five years, Reddy has served at the JSE (previously as head of equity & equity derivatives) within the Capital Markets division. As director of Capital Markets, she is responsible for all primary and secondary market activity across all asset classes, as well as issuer services. This includes the sourcing of new debt and equity primary issues, the development and on-going management of all secondary market trading in cash and derivative markets, and new product and market development across capital markets.

She began her career in 2005 at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch in equity sales and trading, focused on covering local institutional clients, and moved onto its derivatives desk in 2006. Thereafter, Reddy served as Renaissance Capital’s head of Equity Derivative Sales, strategically leading the change from a broking to market-making model, across listed equity-derivative products. She has a Bachelor of Business Science, Actuarial Science degree from UCT.

Magda Wierzycka

Founder and executive chair of Sygnia

Wierzycka is the force behind Sygnia’s rapid growth and the architect of its innovative strategy. She started her career as a product development and investments actuary at Southern Life in 1993 and then worked as an investment consultant for two years at Alexander Forbes (now called Alexforbes). In 1997, she joined Coronation Fund Managers as a director and as its head of institutional business.

She left Coronation in 2003 to start IQvest, a fund of hedge funds management company. Later that year, after selling IQvest to the African Harvest group, she was appointed as CEO of African Harvest. After negotiating the sale of African Harvest Fund Managers to Cadiz Financial Services in 2006, she led the management buyout of the remainder of the African Harvest group, which resulted in the formation of Sygnia.

Hlelo Giyose

CIO at First Avenue Investment Management

Giyose founded First Avenue in 2010 and has worked in the investment management industry since 1993, in various roles in both the investment research and portfolio management functions. His experience in analysing a variety of sectors in the market – industrials, financials, and resources – created a strong foundation for his current role as a portfolio manager. He has worked for Investec Asset Management and HSBC (US).

Most recently, at STANLIB and the Industrial Development Corporation, Giyose headed up core investment propositions and served in senior management roles. He also gained valuable exposure to corporate governance and strategic decision making when serving as a director on the board of various IDC-held investments. His qualifications include a MSc Investment Management (Cass Business School, London) and a BSc Business Administration (University of New Hampshire, US).

Nilan Morar

Vice President of Trading at the Purple Group

Nilan Morar is the vice president of trading and trading ops for Purple Group. Morar started his career in finance in 1994 at one of the big four banks in South Africa, thereafter, moving to a smaller niche bank and broker before starting at Purple Group (then GT247) in 2002.

He was excited to be involved in something new and innovative given that the company was the first to introduce the concept of spread trading and contracts for difference to the South African market. He was instantly drawn to this pioneering mindset, which still exists throughout Purple Group today.

Over the years Morar has gained invaluable knowledge and experience spanning trading, execution, derivatives, asset management, structured products, and operations. He completed the International Capital Markets Qualification in London, the Registered Persons exams, and the regulatory exams in South Africa. Morar is also a registered Key Individual with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority.

Dr Adrian Saville

Investment specialist at Genera Capital

Saville has experience in managing all of the major asset classes, and has successfully combined teaching and investments over the years. Currently, he holds a Professorship in Economics, Finance and Strategy at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (Gibs).

Saville’s career has encompassed consulting widely to government and the corporate world. An area of focus in his work is the competitiveness of companies, industries and countries that leads to an inquiry into what enables businesses and investors to succeed in an increasingly dynamic – and oftentimes harsh – global environment.

Saville is also a Professor in Finance at the Gordon Institiue of Business Science (GIBS).

Piet Nel

CA (SA) specialising in taxation

Nel is the project director of professional development (tax) at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (Saica). Previously he was Saica’s project director for tax for three years. He is a visiting adjunct professor at Wits and was previously a lecturer in tax at postgraduate level at the University of Pretoria and Unisa.He is involved in tax consulting, tax dispute resolution, and tax opinion work and is an accounting member of the Tax Court.

Nel was a member of Saica's national tax committee and is still active in the development of tax legislation in South Africa by commenting on proposed legislation. Over a period of more than three decades Nel has presented numerous tax seminars and workshops to tax practitioners and regularly speaks on radio and TV and publishes articles on tax-related issues. As a member of the Saica Examination Committee, he is involved in setting the entrance examination for CAs (SA).

Louis van Vuren

CEO of Fisa; FPSA®, CFP® and TEP

Van Vuren’s career in financial services goes back 30 years, with 24 of these spent in the fiduciary industry. He holds a BA, LLB and LLM degrees from RAU (now UJ), an Advanced Certificate in Leadership from UCT and an Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from UFS.

He served as legal advisor and in management at Old Mutual and in various senior management roles in Old Mutual Trust and BoE Trust, before taking early retirement in 2012. He is director: Trust Services of Finlac Risk and Legal Management (Pty) Ltd, a fee-based financial planning practice in Cape Town.

Nadir Thokan

Client Investment Director at SEI Investments

Nadir is a Client Strategy Director for SEI’s Institutional Group in South Africa. He has been in the multi-management industry since 2011, having served as a manager, research analyst, investment strategist, portfolio manager and chief investment officer. His technical investment and strategic business experience place him in an advantageous position to execute the mandate of senior business development director within SEI’s South African business, and effectively service existing clients from the ground.

Part of his role includes ensuring the local market is kept abreast of SEI’s market views and portfolio positioning. As such, prior responsibilities which included writing and generating all market commentary research and client communication material, set a good foundation for effective client communication.

Albert Botha

Head of fixed income at Ashburton Investments

Botha is responsible for managing Ashburton Investments’ fixed income team, as well as the fixed income investment and implementation processes for both the retail and institutional businesses. During his tenure at Ashburton, he has won two Raging Bulls awards for fixed income performance and has helped grow the business’s assets under management significantly. Botha has over 15 years of experience in the investment markets, working at both large integrated financial services companies as well as being a shareholder and executive director at an independent investment boutique.

Kelebogile Moloko

CIO at Prowess Investment Managers

Moloko is the founder and chief investment officer of Prowess Investment Managers, a black women-owned investment management business. She started her career in the financial services sector in 1998, before transitioning into the investment management industry in 2000. Her extensive investment management experience comes with invaluable expertise in investment strategy, portfolio strategy and construction in fixed income markets and development finance. She has added value strategically through various board positions.

Moloko holds a BCom degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Western Cape, BCom Honours in Portfolio Management and Financial Analysis from UCT and an Advanced Leadership Diploma from the UCT Graduate School of Business. She is committed to nation-building through various initiatives and has a passion for helping people unlock their potential. Through her active involvement in the industry, Prowess plays a crucial role in industry-wide transformation initiatives that aim for collaboration to accelerate the pace of transformation in the SA investment management value chain.

Elke Brink

Director & Wealth Advisor at R21 PSG Wealth

Elke Brink was one of the youngest people in the FPI’s history to obtain her CFP in 2016. She has now been working in the industry for eight years, specialising as a wealth advisor. PSG Wealth R21 specialises in wealth management and employee benefits. PSG Wealth R21 is based in Pretoria as well as Stellenbosch. Brink forms part of a team of 10 directors within R21. Having been raised in the industry with both her parents and her brother also working in the company, she feels very passionate about it.

Kundayi Munzara

Co-founder and executive director of Sesfikile Capital

Munzara holds a BSc (Hons) in Property Studies from UCT. He completed UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) exams for approved person status and holds a CFA designation. He recently completed his Private Equity and Venture Capital course as well as the Programme for Leadership Development (PLD), both at Harvard Business School.

He began his career at Old Mutual Properties as a property valuer, and in 2005 continued at Investec Private Bank’s property risk team. He then moved to Investec Property Investments as a buy-side analyst and was subsequently appointed head of research for the investment team with analysts in South Africa, UK and Australia. Munzara also played a key role in the development of Investec’s global listed property offering, which included investments in UK, European and Australian real estate investment trusts.

Ipeleng Mkhari

Co-founder and CEO of Motseng Investment Holdings

Mkhari established the first black woman-owned CCTV business as well as Motseng Investment Holdings, in 1998. In 2007 she became national chair of the Women’s Property Network, and championed introducing a diverse membership base, mentorship programme and education trust. In November 2012, she was a promoter of black-managed, substantially black-owned Delta Property Fund, which listed on the JSE with an asset value of R2bn (today circa R11bn). In 2018/19 she served as president of South African Property Owners Association.

She holds a BSocSc, has completed Wits Business School’s Executive Development Programme and is an Archbishop Tutu fellow. Mkhari has served on various boards of unlisted and listed businesses, public sector agencies and non-profit organisations. She is currently a non-executive director of Revego, Attacq* and iBuild; a trustee on the Women’s Property Network Education Trust; and an advisory board member of Womanomics Africa. During her 23-year career, Mkhari has received several awards, including the Standard Bank Top Woman in Property Award (2016).

Rupert Finnemore

CEO of EasyProperties

Rupert's career in the real estate market spans 18 years, during which he has held several positions of senior leadership. He left the conventional real estate sector to pursue his interests in the disruptive proptech sector, and in 2020 he helped establish EasyProperties.

He is a former English teacher with advanced degrees in business and management from the UNISA Business School and Proptech from the University of Oxford Business School.

Busisa Jiya

Jiya holds a Bachelor of Business Science with majors in Economics and Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town.
