David Kop, CFP®, Head: Advocacy and Consumer Affairs at the Financial Planning Institute (FPI), lectured at Unicollege (previously Damelin) since 2010. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, a member of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners, where he is a General Tax Practitioner™, and has served on the Income Tax and Estate Planning committees since 2009.
Kop has worked in the financial services industry as a personal assistant for over 17 years in an employee benefit brokerage, and as a sales consultant in short term insurance; an assistant manager at Liberty Life and for the past nine years has operated as an independent financial planner. In 2013 he then joined FPI in which during that time he also run his private tax and accounting practice.
He matriculated in 1994 from Ferndale High School he then went to complete a B.Comm (Financial Management) at the University of Johannesburg in 2001, a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning Law from the University of Free State in 2002 and a Certificate in Administration of Estates from Unisa in 2007.
The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised professional body for financial planners, which serves the public by ensuring that people who carry the CFP® designation are qualified, experienced and professional. FPI is recognised internationally and is a founding and a current affiliate member of the international Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd (FPSB) based in the USA, along with 25 other affiliate member countries who offer CFP® certification, the highest recognised professional designation worldwide for a financial planning professional.
