Business Leadership: Hire people willing to volunteer and surprise bosses

Given Mkhari on growing energetic, passionate, hungry and curious young stars (Quick Insight 3′ 10″).

As a young man, Given Mkhari’s drive and determination took him from Burgersdorp where he was born and decided to become a teacher, to establishing the first campus-based radio station to be licensed by the then-Independent Broadcasting Authority, and on to internships at a number of New York radio stations, mentorships by world famous radio- and business professionals, academics and yes, even pop stars.

To this day this founder and CEO of MSG Afrika Investment Holdings believes that his most valuable learning occurred while interning in New York where he saw how the bosses he worked for favoured those who had initiative, “…people who raised their hands and said ‘ let me help’…. I was that guy….”

In this quick insight extracted from a full-length video interview with Mkhari, he reveals his hiring practices and how he grows the energetic, passionate, hungry and curious young stars employed in his companies.
