Medical aid annual increases

And understanding what informs those increases.

Medical aid members find themselves paying healthcare insurance on a monthly basis and these costs become all the more important around this time of year when schemes announce their increases for the upcoming year.

What is important is for members to gain a better understanding of what informs those increases.

For instance, in 2020, the Government Employees Medical Scheme (Gems) has reinvested close to a billion rand towards benefits enhancement, and for the second year in a row Gems’s contribution increase is the lowest in the industry.

Karyna Pierce, the chief financial officer at Gems, speaks about this in more detail.

I wonder how long the members of GEMS will take to come to their senses and realize that their hard earned monthly premiums are being spent on advertising a “closed medical aid scheme” on a public platform!!!

In consequence to the above one can’t help but wonder what the CFO, the COO, the Principal Officer, etc., are all doing in order to address the above irregularity!

Similarly the same questions should be raised regarding the cost of road shows that are regularly held at various centres throughout the country during the course of the past year about matters which are unrelated to the business of a closed medical aid scheme!

What is the increase Gems? Tell us so that we can compare.
Reinvested a billion rand in 2020? Currently it is 2019.
