1. Financial reporter

Moneyweb is looking to appoint a senior reporter to join its team of writers in Johannesburg. The position is senior level and the individual will be reporting to the publication’s editor.

Position overview

We’re looking for a person with a track record of excellent business and investment writing and analysis. 

The candidate must have a good grasp of the South African business environment, as well as of the global context. They need to have an understanding of the principles of economics, knowledge of stocks listed on the JSE, an understanding of the relationships between different financial instruments, and be able to interpret companies’ financial statements.

They must have a good idea of what makes a good story and be able to generate good story ideas in discussion with the editorial team. 

Main responsibilities

  • Produce well-written, relevant, accurate and balanced business news and investment stories as well as op-eds;
  • Manage multiple stories simultaneously under tight deadlines;
  • Perform any other duty as is reasonably assigned by the editor.

Minimum qualifications and requirements 

  • Relevant diploma/degree;
  • No less than five years’ experience in journalism;
  • An existing contact base;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Thorough understanding of the Press Code;
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Salary is negotiable.

2. Production editor 

Moneyweb is looking to appoint an individual to manage the editorial production process for the website. This person will be responsible for ensuring that the process is efficient and that all content published on the website is accurate and in line with the publication’s tone and editorial focus. 

Position overview

We’re looking for a highly organised and energetic individual with a meticulous eye. This person must be able to multi-task and copy edit on the fly without compromising quality.

This person will be responsible for ensuring that the rest of the production team works in an efficient manner so that the website is updated regularly with relevant content, is without errors and appeals to readers. 

This individual will work closely with Moneyweb’s deputy editor to manage copy flow, which means liaising and interacting with both internal and external journalists. 

The position is Johannesburg-based and available from September 1.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage and co-ordinate the daily publication of content on Moneyweb.co.za, in its daily newsletter and other digital entities;
  • Manage and co-ordinate news flow from conceptualisation to publication;
  • Manage and co-ordinate the editing and sub-editing of all content to ensure it is factual, accurate, not in violation of the press code and within the Moneyweb style;
  • Co-ordinate the marketing of Moneyweb content on social media (both paid and organic);
  • Work closely with the sales team to ensure the smooth-running of sponsored content campaigns;
  • Work closely with Moneyweb radio to co-ordinate the integration of broadcast content on the website. 

Minimum qualifications and requirements 

  • At least five years’ experience in journalism production;
  • Relevant degree or diploma;
  • The ability to work to tight-rolling deadlines (including evenings and weekends);
  • The ability to analyse data and leverage audience insights to inform strategy;
  • The ability to conduct fast, accurate and factually-correct editing;
  • Previous experience managing a production team/journalists;
  • Previous experience working in finance, business and investment news;
  • Previous experience working in a digital news environment.

3. Marketing manager

Moneyweb is looking for a marketing manager to join its current team in Johannesburg. This person will be responsible for the marketing of Moneyweb content and products to existing and new audiences. 

Position overview

The Moneyweb marketing manager will be responsible for implementing marketing functions for Moneyweb and implement agreed marketing strategies of the brand into current audience and to expand the brand into untapped markets.

Main responsibilities

  • Marketing of Moneyweb’s branded platforms to existing and new audiences.
  • Marketing of Moneyweb as a brand to new audiences and advertisers
  • Developing the marketing strategy for the company in line with company objectives.
  • Drive event activations with Moneyweb’s stakeholders
  • Co-ordinating marketing campaigns with sales activities.
  • Overseeing the company’s marketing budget along-side management.
  • Planning and implementing promotional campaigns.
  • Overall responsibility for brand management and corporate identity
  • Monitor and report on effectiveness of marketing communications.
  • Creating a wide range of different marketing materials.
  • Working closely with the editorial and publishing team and assisting with new product launches.
  • Maintain effective internal communications to ensure that all relevant company functions are kept informed of marketing objectives.
  • Building brand awareness and positioning.

The following skills are required:

  • Relevant qualification and five years’ experience within the sector;
  • Financial media experience;
  • Experience with creating a marketing campaign, marketing strategy, and marketing plan;
  • Experience with online marketing, including social media, and content marketing;
  • Excellent social media skills, especially the marketing of products;
  • Experience in co-ordinating and executing events;
  • Experience in trade marketing and interaction with agencies.

Salary is negotiable.
