South Africa has officially exited its third wave of coronavirus infections, the National Institute of Communicable Diseases said.

New infections fell to below 1 000 on Sunday and the positivity rate of tests was 5%, the institute said in a statement.

“Nationally we have exited the third wave according to the current definition,” it said.

With almost 2.9 million confirmed infections and over 87 000 deaths, South Africa has been worse hit by the virus than any other country in Africa.

And will now entre the 4th wave to keep the pot boiling for the leaches.

Thanks for stating the obvious. We can all see it in the graphs. The seasonality of this virus is clear in SA – there is almost nothing you can do to spread it between wave, and almost nothing you can do to stop the spread during peak waves. So can we now get rid of all restrictions until (at least) the start of the 4th wave? Or is this just never-ending interventions and central-planning of the economy and society now?

End of comments.
