Over the past few years, South African investors have seen some extraordinary returns from global equity funds.
The top-performing Baillie Gifford Worldwide Long Term Global Growth fund, managed by Citywire AAA-rated duo Tom Slater and Mark Urquhart, is up 208% in rand terms since November 2018.
This growth has been fuelled by the momentum in stocks such as Amazon, Tesla and ASML Holdings, which have experienced incredible gains over this period.
While there is plenty of debate around the sustainability of these gains, and whether rising inflation could signal an end to the long-running growth rally, there is no question that growth investors are still dominating performance tables.
Nine of the 10 best-performing global equity funds over the past 36 months sit in the Citywire global growth equity category.
The tenth is the Sygnia 4th Industrial Revolution Global Equity fund, which is categorised as global blend but is very much positioned towards long-term growth trends.
