We’re in the tail end of the June results reporting season and I spoke with Afrocentric CEO Ahmed Banderker as it reported a slight drop in medical scheme members and some shifting down to lower-cost memberships in its year-end results. But its Pharmacy Direct continues to do well and the recently-introduced telemedicine offering is one to watch.
Pan African Resources is a small miner relative to many of its local and global peers. But it is a true low-cost gold miner and I spoke with CEO Cobus Loots about its annual results and making money from old mines long abandoned.
Office real estate investment trusts (Reits) had been under pressure locally and globally even before the pandemic and I spoke with Reitway Global CIO Garreth Elston to get a sense of the investment case here, or maybe lack of one. While we’re not sure how the office will look after this pandemic, we do know it’ll be different, and I suspect at this point we’re left with more questions than answers.
Most mining stocks on the JSE and their underlying commodities are trading at lows for the year. I asked Gary Booysen from Rand Swiss if we should be fearful or greedy. He points out that we don’t have massive deals nor huge new production coming online from any miners. So maybe this sell-off is actually an opportunity, but there is no need to rush.
