Cosatu readies for national strike against job losses

The union says it wants to hear, from tonight’s Sona, how government plans to move the economy forward.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions is preparing for a national strike against job losses.

The strike will kick off in all nine provinces on February 13, except in the Western Cape where protests will take place on February 19, a day before finance minister, Tito Mboweni, delivers his maiden budget speech.

Cosatu first president, Mike Shingange, says government and the private sector have been shedding jobs despite the commitment, from the jobs sand investment summits convened by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year, to create jobs.
