Denel board chairperson defends new CEO appointment

Managing liquidity, service delivery first order of business for new CEO.

Denel board chairperson, Monhla Hlahla has defended the appointment of new CEO, Daniel du Toit. She says the decision to hire du Toit was to make sure that the executive committee has the right set of skills to make it possible for the company to compete globally.

Hlahla was responding to allegations by the Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (Lumisa) that the board and the Department of Public Enterprises had failed to employment equity recommendations and overlooked qualifying individuals. She says the union only represents a sector of Denel.
