Jobs: a new focus for responsible investing

Conscious investors seek positive return and sustainable impact.

Responsible investing seeks to achieve investor returns while, at the same time, boosting the lot of stakeholders who are connected to the investment one is making. There appears to be a growth in responsible investing, as more investors wake up to sustainability and environmental issues.

To unpack the movement, Andrew Canter, chief investment officer at Futuregrowth Asset Management, speaks with Nompu Siziba. He also explains what South African investors can do in an environment where job losses are high on the list of the challenges that face sustainability.

In a world where nothing about our industrial way of life is sustainable, we are going to have sustainable jobs.

As in for everybody now, I guess.

Eskom won’t meet its salary bill in a month, and our government that can’t run electricity, sewage, an airline, a school system, an army an Airforce, or the police, is going to fix it without losing a job or taking any debt onto its balance sheet.

Sounds like the only sustainable job around here will be for Harry Potter.

End of comments.
