I doubt ADSL is going anywhere. Telkom just launched Pure ADSL without the requirement of the analogue phone line (~R200 saving). That means a 20Mbps DSL connection is now cheaper than a 10Mbps Fibre connection! (R625 vs R697 Vumatel).

Fibre is still lacking in many areas. Where copper is “ubiqiuitous”. There have been discussions about possible collusion and price fixing among the fibre players. Recently, one provider to push its minimum speeds to 15Mbps, while also hiking the cost… Only the 100Mbps package came down in price, but at R1k+ it’s really a premium offering.

End of comments.
