New measures to bring order to strikes

A new code of good practice governing various aspects of strike action came into effect on January 1. It is a welcome step towards eliminating violent and damaging strikes but its effectiveness remains to be seen.

In the last five years, SA’s mining industry has faced some of the country’s most prolonged and violent strikes over wages.
