Rand dwindles to near R15 against dollar

Continued tension between the US and China are setting markets into risk aversion mode.

The local currency sank as low as R14.99 to the dollar on Tuesday, as global risk aversion set in following tit-for-tat manoeuvres between the US and China in their trade war duel. However, the currency managed to pick up a little during the course of the day, with some attributing the lift to China deciding where its currency sits against the dollar, depreciating against the US currency.
