SA reaches new highs as medical cannabis licences awarded

What potential does this hold for job creation?

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority has awarded the first batch of licences for cultivating medicinal cannabis to local companies. However, it’s not clear how many licences were awarded. This will allow the country to compete in a global industry that is expected to be worth $50 billion over the next 10 years.

Dr Thandeka Kunene, the co-founder of House of Hemp, who has been awarded one of the licences, speaks to Nompu Siziba about the guidelines that the regulator has given applicants and the outlook for the industry in South Africa.
