About 22 000 mining jobs under threat – NUM

Long drawn wage talks with bullion producers not yet resolved.

About 22 000 jobs are under threat in South Africa’s beleaguered mining industry, National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) General Secretary David Sipunzi said on Monday.

Unions have been in long drawn out wage talks with bullion producers AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony Gold, Sibanye Gold and Evander Gold Mines against a backdrop of globally weaker prices afflicting the sector.
