Financial education, an imperative for employers

New codes are changing the game.
Are the good times over? The stock market isn’t booming anymore, the country is facing the prospects of a ratings downgrade, the economy is slowing and things just feel financially hard … but that doesn’t mean that your wallet needs to take undue strain.

Now in its second year of existence, the Money Expo 2016 plays host to leading Money Coach (TM) Gary Kayle, one of the co-founders of The Money School, a financial education business.

The Money School is also involved a joint venture with JSE-listed media group Moneyweb which brings financial education into businesses through an online course.

Kayle says: “We know that consumers are hurting. Increases in fuel, food and living costs are outpacing salary increases and South Africans are struggling. We love the fact that we are able to give people back the power when it comes to their personal financial management. We do it in a way that’s both practical, and empowering and makes a real difference their lives.”

Money School co-founder Hayley Parry adds: “The Money School is uniquely equipped to help businesses get the maximum number of Skills Development points that they can, whilst changing the lives of their employees, customers and even the broader community within which they trade. There is a direct link between an employees’ productivity and loyalty and their financial wellness and this is just one way that our education positively impacts corporates.”

“Government has made some very significant changes to the country’s B-BBEE codes whereby three priority elements – namely Ownership, Skills Development and Enterprise & Supplier Development – are responsible for the bulk of the accrued BEE points. We’re proud that our investment in The Money School’s financial education course helps uplift and upskill South Africans, whilst simultaneously assisting companies comply with the Skills Development priority element within the codes,” says Moneyweb MD Marc Ashton.

Money Expo 2016 runs over 8 and 9 July at the Sandton Convention Centre.
