JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s energy regulator said on Thursday it will appeal a court ruling that set aside part of an electricity price increase it had approved earlier this year.
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) in March approved a tarriff increase of 9.4% requested by state utility Eskom, part of which was a temporary increase for running expensive diesel generators.
But a South African court found Eskom had not followed correct procedure when requesting the temporary additional increase.
“(We) will be appealing the judgement,” Nersa said in a statement.
