Skywise’s one and only plane withdrawn

CEO resigned last week.

Moneyweb has learnt that embattled low cost airline Skywise suffered another blow on Monday when its only aircraft was withdrawn due to non-payment.

This follows a few weeks after two other planes from another provider were also withdrawn, which forced the airline to reduce its number of flights per day from eight to six.

Skywise president at the time Tabassum A Qadir, apologised, saying: “All passengers who are negatively affected by the schedule change will be contacted by our customer service agents to either accommodate them on alternative flights or to help them claim a full refund”.

She said at the time: “It is unfortunate that a misunderstanding of payment terms between Skywise and our main service providers, Air Traffic and Navigation Systems (ATNS) and Airports Company of South Africa (Acsa), grounded six of our flights last week. We assure our customers and other stakeholders that we have made the necessary changes in our processes in order to safeguard future travel reliability. We have since signed a new agreement with both parties and we can assure our passengers that this matter has now been rectified and that they won’t see a repeat of this mistake”.

On Monday evening passengers however took to social media after further flights were cancelled.

Moneyweb confirmed that the last of the three planes Skywise was operating, (ZS-PKV) was withdrawn on Monday due to non-payment, seemingly leaving it without any aircraft to fly.

To add to its woes, Skywise CEO Irfan Pardesi resigned recently. He confirmed this on Twitter and Facebook on November 6.

Efforts to get hold of Skywise were unsuccessful on Tuesday morning, but its comment will be added as soon as it is received.
