Vodacom says data price cuts affected by delayed spectrum allocation

Says it reduced its effective data price by about 50% since March 2016.

South African telecoms group Vodacom said on Monday that the delayed allocation of spectrum had affected the rate at which it could reduce data prices, after the competition regulator told it and rival MTN to lower data prices.

Vodacom spokesman Byron Kennedy said Vodacom had reduced its effective data price by about 50% since March 2016 and that the company would respond in greater detail once it had studied the Competition Commission’s report.
