Eskom has confirmed that a fire has broken out at the Kendal Power Station coal-fired power station in Mpumalanga on Friday morning.
It said one of the power station’s conveyor belts caught fire but generation was not affected.
“Eskom can confirm that a fire broke out on one of the conveyor belts taking the ash out of the Kendal Power Station this morning,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
“The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries. It has had no effect on the generation of electricity and the belt will be replaced today. Station continues to operate as normal,” he added.
The fire came just after the power utility suspended rolling blackouts, otherwise known as load shedding.

By ignoring the actual contents of the article, and be fixated on the heading “Fire at power station”…
…well, one does indeed NEED A (coal) FIRE for the furnace, in order to turn the steam turbine, etc. Without a fire, generation stops.
Happy to hear you have “fire” 😉 Use it.
