SA’s October headline CPI edges up to 4.7%

Core inflation edged lower to 5.2% year-on-year in October.

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s headline consumer inflation ticked up to 4.7% year-on-year in October compared with 4.6% in September, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, prices also rose, to 0.3% from 0% in the previous month.

Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, edged lower to 5.2% year-on-year in October from 5.3% in the previous month, while also falling to 0.2% month-on-month from 0.4%.
