South Africa’s former president Jacob Zuma is exploring every legal avenue after being given a 15-month jail sentence for defying an order to appear at a corruption inquiry, a senior official in the African National Congress (ANC) said on Tuesday.

“President Zuma is exploring every legal avenue that is available to reduce or to remove the custodial sentence. … We believe that the judiciary must be left to make its own decisions, (but) … we would hope that comrade Zuma’s court application will be successful,” the party’s Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte told a news conference.

Better idea – keep the legal pressure on it until it drops dead of a stress induced heart attack – cheaper than maintaining it at the tax payer’s cost (like ALL criminals)

And NEC madam Duarte wishes the former number one best of luck with the Court Case.

Meanwhile most so called legal experts are clueless on where this is going as is the hat wearing clown and his cabal of generals, the frog boiling rubbish in chief as well as the divided and broken ANC.

Look at the bright side. In any other socialist nation, Zuma would have been president for life, and commentators on Moneyweb would have been sentenced by a bundu court to dig coal in a labour camp for 10 years.

Although they are struggling to figure out how to actually lock him up, at least they have sentenced him, and not us!

…amazing one can appeal to the CC to change their minds on a ruling

Agreed, I could’ve been in the Gulags right next to Sensei based upon some of the comments.

Jessie Duarte playing it safe!

This is the anc’s making.

The must cleanup their mess!!!!

How can the High Court make a decision on a ruling that the Constitutional Court made?

Only in Africa.

Every ‘legal avenue’? Like contempt-of-court and rent-a-crowd?

But Mr. Zuma has had plenty of time to explore all legal avenues.

His time is up.

JAIL TIME NOW!

Chose any first world law and a 10,000 lawyers and you will still go to JAIL.

Stop wasting time and go to Jail.

Why is anyone surprised? Less high-up SA politicians than Zuma managed to stay out of jail, why would it be different for someone with as much patronage/funds available as JZ?

no legal expert but the way i understand this whole zuma circus, is that for any citizen in south africa the legal avenues would be at its end by now – how is it that minister bheki cele can decide / override the highest court’s decision and utter words like “we’re in no rush to arrest zuma” – it is the “we” part that represent the anc – so what beke indirectly actually says is the anc is above the law – even the highest court in south africa – africa’s youngest banana republic is born – the rest of the world is laughing at the “new sa”, the anc’s insite is non existent, they join in laughing

The time for talking is over. He asked for his day in court, then ran away like a dog with it”s tail between it’s legs. Lock him up, end of story

End of comments.
