Eskom has announced that it will implement Stage 2 load shedding from 16:00 on Tuesday to 05:00 on Wednesday, due to added constraints after the generation unit at Kusile Power Station tripped.
The power utility says a unit each at Matimba and Arnot power stations failed to return to service as it had previously anticipated.
In addition, it expects these constraints to persist for the rest of the week which may require extending load shedding.
“We are currently utilising emergency generation reserves extensively to supplement supply,” it said in a statement.
Eskom says the total breakdowns currently amount to 17 933MW while planned maintenance is 3 451MW of capacity.
