Further booze restrictions on the cards

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce tighter Covid-19 restrictions later tonight to combat the rapid spreading of the deadly virus.

Ramaphosa is anticipated to put some restrictions on the sale of alcohol and limits on the size of gatherings.

This expected move by the government is part of its efforts to stem the spread of the virus, which has increased to about 8 000 infections a day.

The National Liquor Traders Council says it is aware of the talk about further restrictions on the sale of alcohol and has warned that thousands of township households will be impacted financially if it goes ahead.

If a booze ban goes ahead, it will likely see sales restricted to four days a week, as seen when restrictions were tightened in the past.

The president is addressing the nation following him convening a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council on Tuesday.

South Africa is currently on Alert Level two of the national lockdown.

Those that are currently violating the current protocols around the virus are not going to heed this new set of restrictions – so why punish those who are abiding by the rules, why not go after the real violators

why have arbitrary country-wide restrictions on certain businesses at all? Government should stay out of people’s lives and businesses – they only make things worse. Everyone knows the risks now and can see for themselves if the numbers are picking up in their areas or not.

The non-adherence ones are the ones least policed and Taxis run 140% full.

Proudly brought to you by Mrs Zuma.

Supply chains are well-established, no need to break into a sweat about where to get booze over weekends. Working people cannot get to the shops in those arbitrary and ridiculous times. The fiscus will lose again, but heck, who cares? We are over the ineffective regulations made by an utterly incompetent politburo.

End of comments.
