The mayor of Johannesburg, South Africa’s economic hub and largest city, has died after contracting the coronavirus.

Geoff Makhubo took office in December 2019 after the ruling party wrested control of the city from an opposition coalition. He was hospitalised after becoming infected with Covid-19 and he succumbed to the disease on Friday, the city said in a statement. Eunice Mgcina was named the acting mayor.

South Africa is currently in the throes of a third wave of coronavirus infections, with Johannesburg and the surrounding Gauteng province bearing the brunt of new cases.

Can the ANC please give Joburg a proper mayor now.

Who is going to answer for all the corruption claims against Mr Makhubo? The ANC?

Back in the day, the mayor held a full time job. It was an honorary position, without a salary. He got a cup of tea for attending 2 meetings a year. ” Bring back the mayor “

Can we have Herman back please?

Good riddance to the corrupt. Hope Ace et al are next… too honest?

How is it known that the cause of death was the Covid virus? Was a post-mortem conducted? If not then it should have been. This is a political figurehead in a crime-infested country. Hospital bed assassinations are commonplace even with far less significant people, though seldom given any media coverage. Now we have a new media frenzy about “cases” and the 3rd wave, with obvious sponsored purpose of extending the suicidal lockdown syndrome so as to create debilitation and mayhem. Ideal conditions for money-power to establish direct totalitarian control. The crock reasoning is meaningless without corresponding deaths attributed. Even more reason to doubt any related ascribed-but-unproven Covid cause of death. Especially when there is a reduction of deaths ascribed to “normal” causes. Is all logic lost?

End of comments.
