About 54% of South Africans say they are unlikely to get a Covid-19 vaccine and almost half say they believe prayer provides more protection than the shots against contracting the disease, a survey showed.

The Afrobarometer survey of 1 600 South Africans highlights a hurdle for the government’s drive to inoculate two thirds of its 60 million people in a bid curb infections in the country, which is Africa’s worst hit by the disease, according to official statistics.

Hesitancy is highest among those below the age of 35 and among the poor, according to the survey.

The survey, conducted in May and June, has a 2.5 percentage point margin of error, Afrobarometer said on Wednesday.

South Africa has recorded more than 2.4 million coronavirus infections and almost 71 000 deaths. While over 7 million vaccine doses have been administered in the country just 2.69 million people are fully vaccinated.

Only one way to get around this. Quickly vaccinate everybody that wants to get the jab.

Then go to level zero and disband the NCCC. It will take a while but heard immunity will be achieved at some time.

Maybe there is a reason the poor is poor.

Some religions keep people humble and grounded.
Good for the emotional well being, the virus is not part of the spiritual realm.

The virus kills, that is its only purpose.

More can surely be done by religious leaders to educate the sceptics on the benefits of getting vaccinated against COVID-19? Make use of the SABC to drive home the message.

If religious leaders started preaching science over religion they’d be talking themselves swiftly out of a job…

Vaccine related deaths are very rare and we should be brave and take a chance. No, wait. Don’t you think you should check if you are at high risk first? The risks are reduced when you are more aware about them. For example the reported injection deaths in the UK are said (UKColumn report from official data) to be so far equal to all such deaths for all vaccines for the 31 year period before the pandemic. You should read that again. Herd immunity will come about eventually regardless. Natures way has a long track record of success with no after effects.

Nature may also decide that you and your family are high on the list. Does that fit in with your thesis?

Natural selection at work

There is calculated bravery and mindless bravery. The calculated one does not come from be unquestioning. Either way, good luck.

Hers immunity will NOT come regardless.

There is a time limit. Otherwise mutations will
Simply repeat.

Christians should not punish themselves and see it as a vote of no confidence if they get vaccinated. Most have been vaccinated against many other diseases since childhood, so what makes this vaccination any different?

Because this virus led to a 20 month lockdown dumbo.

Crippling the world economy and sending South Africa 20 years back.

How hard is that ?

And the vaccine contributed to these problems you mention how?

Heysus kryst we are a lot of mohrons

End of comments.
