South Africa’s government is set to announce that it has found a strategic equity partner for state-owned carrier South African Airways, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Details of the announcement are expected on Friday morning, the people said, declining to be identified because the information isn’t yet public. Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan was scheduled to brief the media on the matter Thursday, before postponing to the following day.

The expected announcement comes about six weeks after the airline emerged from lengthy bankruptcy proceedings, having reduced its workforce by almost 80% and cut liabilities. The next challenge is to resume international flights, though South Africa remains cut off from much of the world due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Good luck with that.

The Guptas coming back ??

Timing Timing Timing is everything … they forgot to tell us what they are coming back for

I think they were in the Airline industry in India?

Wonder how many Billions this “strategic Equity Partner” will cost the SA tax payer.

Its the anc so expect it to cost Billions now and Billions in bailouts going forward.

These anc idiots believes a combination of stubbornness and stupidity shows courage. It does NOT!! It shows stupidity and stubbornness.

let’s see. I expect it to be a someone that is getting funding from the government somehow. I don’t know why, but I expect we’ll see it’s funded from the PIC, the GEPF, DBSA, IDC, ACSA, or some other government-based entity.

If it’s an actual group of people putting in their own equity, I’ll be shocked.

my money is on Iqbal Surve.

No matter who the partner is as long as government has a stake, neither I

nor anyone in my company will fly with them.

who is the partner? The tax payers?

I flew in the past two weeks between JHB and CPT✈️. The saddest flight I ever had. I flew with British Airways, in my own Country

End of comments.
