South Africa has about 80 000 unprocessed Covid-19 specimens as it battles with a shortage of testing kits, according to Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.

“This challenge is caused by the limited availability of test kits globally,” Mkhize said in a statement. “We continue to engage suppliers all over the world and have issued licenses through South African Health Products Regulatory Authority as part of mitigating this capacity challenge.”

South Africa has recorded 27 403 coronavirus infections, 577 fatalities and 14 370 recoveries. At least 96 480 specimens hadn’t been processed by May 25, according to the health ministry. A total of 20 727 tests were conducted and processed Thursday, increasing the testing tally to 655 723.

Why do we need to test? By now doctors should know what a Corona patient looks like. They treat the symptoms and the symptoms are clear. Testing is waste of money. We are all going to get it sooner or later.

Even the Netherlands only tested those who needed to be hospitalized. What point is there in random testing of asimptomatic people? You can become positive before the test result is available. Stick to the precautionary measures, full stop.

The UAE is which is a smaller country and acted almost instantly has completed over 2 million tests which is 23% of the population and continue to test upwards of 32,000 per day.

The shocking reality is what information is not being shared, I fear for my fellow country men and women. 655k tests have been completed out of 59 million people, basically reached 1% of the population. There is a long way to go and how many of the tests are false positive and positive falses no body knows.

It is the honourablething for the government officials is to not take any salary for 3 months and donate it to buying new testing equipment for the sake of the citizens. But they will because they have lost touch with reality.

The perfect storm has arrived. Poor education, lawlessness and health crisis with debt near maximum. Cannot borrow your way out this, this is a car crash in slow motion.

This virus certainly does expose the government for what it is arrogant, nanny state mentality and incompetent to boot. The ability of this government to address the issues is pathetic and to think we only have 80,000 untested cases lying in somebodies inbox doesn’t hold out much hope of beatng this virus

If test results take two weeks there is virtually no point to testing unless all subjects are placed under quarantine until results known. The subject will have infected scores after two weeks. Or be in hospital.
