Zuma rejects tax allegations

Presidency assures that tax matters of the president ‘are in order’.

South African President Jacob Zuma’s office rejected allegations in a book that he failed to file tax returns for at least the first five years of his term and said he hasn’t benefited from receiving undeclared funds.

The allegations were published in the Johannesburg-based Sunday Times newspaper this weekend, which serialized excerpts from a book called “The President’s Keepers,” written by investigative journalist Jacques Pauw. The book is being published today.

“President Zuma has declared to the relevant authorities all income received and allegations contained in the reports are misleading and are clearly part of the ongoing smear campaigns,” the presidency said in an e-mailed statement. “The tax matters of the president are in order.”

Investor confidence in South Africa has been dented by Zuma’s implication in a succession of scandals, including allegations that he allowed members of the wealthy Gupta family, who are in business with his son, to loot billions of rand from state companies. Zuma and the Guptas deny any wrongdoing.

Tax is only for the little people. Like you.

Dear mr President. You are a liar with zero integrity. We don’t believe you. However, you have so many corruption scandals under your belt that this one will likely be soon forgotten by the nation as it is a minor issue compared to all your other scandals.

One of his tax issues is directly related to the Nkandla scandal. Income tax is due on R250m (less R7.8m paid back) of improvements. This comes to around R64m due in tax (not paid yet, therefor accruing interest since 2011). Nothing is being done about this long outstanding tax. Why should the rest of us pay so diligently????

The problem, with SARS compromised, how will we ever know the truth?

We know that we can NEVER trust Zuma though.

Mr President,

You wanted proof of State Capture and you got it. I really feel sorry for you Mr President and our beloved Gupta Family…..every one wants to scandal and gossip about you innocent people who did absolutely nothing wrong which I cannot imagine why….Oh Yes….smear campaign…that is the new buzz word for Mr & Mrs (NDZ) Zuma

Zuma can safely lie while his appointment is running SARS! Tax revolt likely to grow now!

How can he afford Nkandla and apparently a house in Dubai on his salary?

In my opinion he has outperformed any investment available in the world, it is amazing what he got done on his salary.

More of a Finance magician or Finance Guru perhaps?

Any normal South African with his track record would have been audited.

End of comments.
