Kyle Gani – Disrupting the future

‘I took every last penny I had and founded my first company – without a degree. Three years later, Triune Media is going from strength to strength’.

The working world is slowly starting to trade in the overly skilled, overly educated and systematically driven persona, for the one who dreams – the one who goes against the grain, to get the job done – the one who manages to complete a task with little to no resources; with a fiery passion and a vision for the future. The working world is looking for more disruptors.

Today, I’d like to share a little story about someone who isn’t anyone special and who faces many challenges. I’d like to share a story about someone who is just as human as you are.

Life after high school is quite different from the one that most of us expect. Having been accepted to complete a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, I thought that the world was my oyster – like so many of us do – only to be met with a harsh wake-up call by a thing we call reality. Caught in the effects of one of the biggest recessions the world had ever seen, both of my parents lost their businesses and were bordering on bankruptcy. As a top performing student, and loving every minute of my education, I was forced to abandon my studies in my final year. Admittedly, it was tough; and I struggled with how powerless I was for quite some time.

But, I didn’t let that define me.

It’s odd how the traditional education system teaches us that if we study hard and do our best that an “A” will put food on our tables and fuel our success. To add insult to injury, we’re to do this with no technical experience, no people in our networking circles and an outdated theoretical knowledge about how things were done 10 years ago. It’s no wonder that more than 50% of graduates can’t put food on their tables. But I didn’t want to be a statistic. I knew I was destined to be more than that.

So I took every last penny I had and founded my first company – without a degree. Three years later, Triune Media is going from strength to strength and I get to work with companies and people whose lives and businesses I can add value to every day; companies and people who add value to mine.

Then something even more amazing happened.

In a world that changes as rapidly as ours does, we constantly need to learn, grow and share in that knowledge. As technology and access to technology through the internet improves, so too should our dreams and our skill sets – which is why I’d like to tell you about WeThinkCode_.

As someone who was limited by either circumstance or access to information in the past, becoming part of a family of 120 students and staff is truly something special to me. Along with its sponsors, WeThinkCode_ funds each of its students fully for the 2 year course – allowing us to focus on learning and growing. In conjunction with not having to worry about whether or not I’ll be able to afford a world-class education, in a field that I am extremely passionate about, I get to learn in an environment that promotes unlocking my true potential – I get to interact with my peers on a level that isn’t possible in the traditional education system. We learn from and teach each other on a technical level, by working together. We work at our own pace and on our own terms. We have access to the top minds in the tech and business industries. Most of all – I have people who are helping me push boundaries, both internally and out in the real world. I fervently believe that this is the formula for moulding the disruptors we seek.

What has me most excited for the future is that barriers to entry like education, circumstance, equality and access to information are all being stripped away.

Companies and institutions are paving the way for the future disruptors of the world – for all the dreamers, the visionaries, the outcasts. The world is paving the way for people who aren’t anyone special, the people that face many challenges – for people who are just as human as you are.
