3.1 The STANLIB CORE MULTI STYLE EQUITY FUND shall aim to provide investors with consistent South African equity index-beating returns over a rolling three-year period by using a multifactor quantitative process. The fund will be constructed as a benchmark cognizant fund with single stock and sector limits. The fund will aim to return an enhanced index payoff with risk metrics in line with the underlying benchmark.
3.2 In order to achieve this objective, investments to be included in the STANLIB CORE MULTI STYLE EQUITY FUND will primarily comprise of listed equity securities and equity-linked securities across different sectors of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as well as assets in liquid form.
3.3 The manager will be permitted to invest on behalf of the fund in offshore investments as legislation permits from time to time.
3.4 The STANLIB CORE MULTI STYLE EQUITY FUND may utilise listed and unlisted financial instruments, in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the Regulations thereto, as amended from time to time, in order to achieve the portfolio's investment objective.
3.5 The fund may invest in participatory interests or any other form of participation in portfolios of collective investment schemes or other similar collective investment schemes as the Act may allow from time to time, and which are consistent with the portfolio's investment policy. Where the aforementioned schemes are operated in territories other than South Africa, participatory interests or any other form of participation in portfolios of these schemes will be included in the portfolio only where the regulatory environment is, to the satisfaction of the manager and the trustee, of sufficient standard to provide investor protection at least equal to that in South Africa.
3.6 Nothing contained herein shall preclude the manager from varying the ratio of securities to best position the portfolio to achieve its objective in a changing economic environment or market conditions or to meet the requirements, if applicable, of any exchange recognized in terms of the Act and from retaining cash or placing cash on deposit in terms of the deed and any supplemental deeds thereto.
3.7 For the purpose of the STANLIB CORE MULTI STYLE EQUITY FUND, the manager shall reserve the right to close the portfolio to new investors on a date determined by the manager. This will be done in order to be able to manage the fund in accordance with its mandate. The manager may, once a portfolio has been closed, open that portfolio again to new investors on a date determined by the manager.
3.8 The trustee shall ensure that the investment policy set out in this supplemental deed is carried out.
