Element Islamic Global Equity SCI - Comment Jun 19

2019/09/03 00:00:00
Quarterly Commentary
The Element Islamic Global Equity Fund realised a total return of 0.6% for the quarter to the end June 2019, below its benchmark (DJ Islamic World Index Total Return in ZAR) performance. This performance brings the one year total performance of the Fund to -1.5% and annualised over the last three years to 1.1% (note that all returns are net of fees).
The fund’s performance struggled due to its exposure to stocks listed on the European Bourses, especially those with exposure to the UK. Continuing concerns around Brexit is weighing negatively on shares with links into the UK.
  • Fund focus and objective
The investment policy followed by the manager will focus on achieving growth for investors by investing in international equity securities, listed property, money market instruments and assets in liquid form that have been approved for investment by the Shari'ah Supervisory Board from time to time.
